In A Metro Train — Abnish Singh Chauhan

Do you still remember,
my dear,
our meetings
in the metro train,
where our eyes
met in passing,
and smiles
gracing our faces?

We travelled together,
in the same train—
from Rajiv Chowk1
to Anand Vihar,2
for a couple of weeks,
like clockwork,
yet never the same.

I can’t remember
how many times
our eyes met,
but I can recall
every time they parted,
lost in the crowd
of the metro.

One day,
you stepped off the train
and never returned.
Was it a farewell,
or something else?
