The Unread Book — Abnish Singh Chauhan

Lakhs1 of cases
remain pending
in the courts,
and outside them too,
their numbers continue to grow—
just like corrupt leaders,
goons, and profiteers,
day and night,
in the villages,
in the cities.

They declare,
in their speeches—
that all these dark spots
can be erased,
that all the potholes,
filled with sewage water,
can be fixed,
and that all the issues
can be resolved
through mutual dialogue
and understanding.

Can this happen
when the beautiful book
of our Constitution,
locked away in a cupboard,
remains untouched,
unread,
and unpractised
in its truest sense?
